Lock-back means that the knife blade is locked in place using a latch and a spring on the back of the knife that hooks on to the blade. The same latch is then pressed to unlock the blade. The advantages of lock-back are many. It is strong, reliable and suitable for both right and left handed users and there is less risk of accidentally accessing the locking mechanism as it is placed on the top of the handle.
